The tradition of statues and monuments to great figures often attempts to resist the erosion of time by fixing a ‘sublime’ image in an immortal material. However, this effort to defy time is futile; even the greatest images will eventually be altered or forgotten by time.

Wang Changcheng attempts to accelerate this process by using unstable and easily dehydrated materials. He re-casts the images of great historical figures, artificially ‘frozen’ in time, using vegetables and fruits, placing them on drying trays to let them air-dry, dehydrate, gradually deform, and even collapse over time.

       为伟人树立雕像和纪念碑的传统,常常试图借助不朽的材质来定格一种 “崇高” 形象,以此抵御时间的侵蚀。然而,这种与时间抗衡的努力是徒劳的;即便最为伟大的形象,最终也会被时间改变或遗忘。
       王长城尝试通过使用不稳定且易脱水的材料来加速这一过程。他用蔬菜和水果重塑那些被人为 “凝固” 在时间里的历史伟人形象,将它们置于晾晒盘上,让它们随着时间的推移风干、脱水,逐渐变形,甚至崩塌。
